The World – Ice Age Map depicts our planet as it looked during the late glacial maximum of the last ice age, 14,000 years BCE. This world map, inspired by a wide variety of historical maps, aims for bringing the best of traditional cartography to a contemporary setting, while providing a comprehensive scientific-based overview on the subject.

While making this map, I cooperated with multiple university climatologists and geologists, to achieve the most trustworthy results and depict the late pleistocene world as accurately as possible. This map is designed in our vintage-style “decorative” theme, and serves as a perfect decoration for any household, office or school.

The poster includes one full large detailed map of the world, 2 major maps showcasing northern and southern polar regions and 2 detailed minimaps comparing present day climate to that during the late glacial maximum. To better show how the earth really looked 16 thousand years ago when compared to present, map also shows present-day shorelines and modern-day nations and cities(exposing their maritime boundaries).

The world 16,000 years ago was in many ways radically different to the present; because large amounts of water were concentrated in the massive ice sheets covering the majority of North America and western Eurasia, sea levels were about 110 meters lower when compared to today. This exposed massive land bridges, most notably Beringia, Sundaland and Sahul.

Northern hemisphere was covered by two main ice sheets; the Wechselian Ice Sheet, covering the much of northern Europe and western Siberia, reaching as far south as Berlin, and the Laurentide&Cordilleran Ice Sheet complex, which covered almost entire Canada and portions of northern USA. Major ice sheets were also present in mountainous areas, most notably in the Himalayas, Rocky Mountains, Alps and Patagonian Andes.

Updated version of the all-time HalcyonMaps classic, the Map of the Internet 2.0. aims for succesful compendation of The Internet to scale suitable for standartized online navigation in an extent never seen before. This poster includes one full map of the internet, 4 minimaps showcasing NSA surveillance, most used social networks, most used internet browser, and worldwide internet penetration, list of Alexa Top 500 websites, quick timeline of the Internet History, top software companies and a lot of other things to explore.

This is version 2.0, published in March 2014 and up to date. The map is designed in our vintage-style “decorative” theme, and serves as a perfect decoration for any household, office, school or computer lab.

This conceptual work of cartography treats major internet sites and enterprises such as Google, Yahoo, Microsoft, HP, and Apple like sovereign states, on a classic map of the world. To explain the dominance and relationships of these entities, they were all given a visual hierarchy that gives prominent treatment to companies with the most users (or sites with the most visitors), surrounding them with smaller countries representing related websites and services.

Map of the Internet 1.0 is divided into 2 main parts. The great eastern continent, the Old World, showcases software companies, gaming companies, and some of the more real-life oriented websites. The western part, the New World, comprises two major continents; the northern one showcasing social networks, search websites, video websites, blogs, forums, and art websites, and southern one dating sites, adult-oriented websites and internet crime. However, this map showcases much more than just websites; additional smaller labels show names of website and enterprise CEO’s and founders, products of companies, or, in case of social networks, most popular pages or channels. In the land of Youtube, we can find more than 50 largest and most prominent channels, including RayWilliamJohnson, Vsauce, Smosh, Pewdiepie, and dozens more.

Another interesting part of the map is the “Porn Continent”. Showcasing all major adult-oriented websites on the internet, this is surely a place to be noticed. Off the coast of the southwestern continent, across the Sea of Tor, lie the islands of Deep Web. On the very south of the map resides “Great Southern Land”, a forgotten wasteland full of outdated and obsolete services and websites. 

However, there is much more to explore. The map includes more than 250 separate websites/enteprises as sovereign states, and more than 2000 separate labels. On the upper corners of the map, there is even a list of Alexa Top 500 websites.

The World – Climate Change(or The World – Rising Sea Level), first map of its kind on such a scale and level of complexity, depicts our planet as it would look without its polar ice caps, with sea levels 260 ft higher as they are today. This world map, inspired by a wide variety of historical maps, aims for bringing the best of traditional cartography to a contemporary setting, while reminding us about the dangers of global warming and subsequent climate change. This map is designed in our vintage-style “decorative” theme, and serves as a perfect decoration for any household, office or school. 

The poster includes one full large detailed map of the world, 2 major maps showcasing northern and southern polar regions and 6 detailed minimaps: vulnerability to climate change, 2010 climate, 2010 summer temperatures, 2100 climate, 2100 summer temperatures and 2100 changes in moisture and precipitation. Information panels outside the main map show 2013 population by country 2100 population by country, countries with highest and lowest fertility rates, largest urban areas(highlighting those that are below sea level or in high enviromental risk)

 Dramatically depicting the devastation caused by the 260 feet sea level rise, the map also shows present shorelines for better understanding and effect. The cities that would be submerged after the sea level rise, can be easily distinguished from the rest by a different label mark and color tinting.

According to recent studies, there is enough ice in Earth’s polar caps to cause about 250-300 ft(80 – 100 m) rise of the sea level. Result of such an event would be catastrophic to human civilization and earth’s biosphere. More than 75% of the world’s population lives below 300 ft above the sea level, including the vast majority of all large urban areas.

 Although this scenario is extremely unlikely to happen within our lifetimes, the truth is, that climate is going to change sharply. Unless we limit our CO2 emissions to bare minimum, Earth will be more than 4 degrees warmer in the year 2100 as it is now. Such a rise in temperature would be destructive to environment and human civilization as well.

As the warming gradually progresses, we will experience more and more extreme weather events. Hurricanes, typhoons and massive floods will occur more frequently and on a much more devastating scale. World’s deserts will expand, engulfing areas as large as the entire continent of Australia, including Southern Europe, the Caribbean and the entire southeast of Africa.

World map showing where the 124 most popular animated movies are set. Includes all major animated movies by Disney, Dreamworks and a multitude of other media companies.

All locations were either explicitly stated/shown in the movies(Finding Nemo, Rio, Madagascar, etc.), derived from the evidence within the movie(Frozen, Lion King…) or derived from the original work the movie was based in (Snow White, Pinocchio).

Placing some of the movies on the map was very difficult and required a lot of research(including looking through fan theories or studying where are various animal species geographically distributed).

Movies that take place in radically different universes (Treasure Planet, Wreck-it-ralph, etc.) were not included on the map. Graphic was compiled under fair use, rights to all movie thumbnail pictures belong to their respective owners.
